About the Candidate

Born 11 February 1986, Justin Kinsey has spent almost his entire life living and volunteering in northern Baltimore County.  A 2004 graduate of Hereford High School, Justin was active in the theatre program and was a member of the Chamber Choir.  During high school, Justin worked at community-based Graul’s Supermarket and at the Hereford Pharmacy.

In 2002 he joined the Hereford Volunteer Ambulance Association where his father, Michael, has been a volunteer since 1992.  At age 18 he was named the Association’s “Most Valuable Member” and received a resolution from the Baltimore County Council for his dedication to the community.  Justin joined the Hereford Volunteer Fire Company in 2004, and is currently serving as its Financial Secretary and as a member of its Board of Directors.

After graduating from high school, Justin spent some time attending college classes before eventually working overseas as a civilian contractor. From May 2005 until May 2006 he worked for Wackenhut Services as a Firefighter and was stationed at Abu Ghraib Prison in Iraq. While working at Abu Ghraib, Justin was assigned additional duties that included pre-planning for chemical/biological weapons attacks, designing and implementing the Fire Department’s orientation program, and acting as an administrative aide to the Chief Officer. After he completed his year in Iraq, Justin was hired by Raytheon Polar Services to work at McMurdo Research Station in Antarctica, this time as a Lieutenant in the Fire Department. During his time in Antarctica, his duties included incident command during the mitigation of emergencies, fire crew and station management, overseeing fire inspections, and coordinating airfield operations. Justin returned home in December of 2006.

Currently, Justin works as the Patient Transportation Coordinator for Northwest Hospital Center, and is also employed by the University of Maryland’s Fire and Rescue Institute as an Emergency Services Instructor.  In addition to volunteering as a firefighter, Justin is a Staff Sergeant with the Maryland Defense Force, an all-volunteer adjunct of the Maryland National Guard, where he is assigned to the 10th Medical Regiment.
